Cost-optimization based target reliability for fire design of insulated steel columns

Adequacy of a structural fire design can in theory be demonstrated through probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) where the compliance with tolerability limits and ALARP requirement are explicitly ascertained. However, explicit is challenging impractical for day-to-day designs, due to burden estimating uncertain future costs current safety investment costs. For normal conditions, use target reliability indices has been recommended instead. These however have not defined under events. To address this gap, study demonstrates method derive fire-exposed structure. As case study, an insulated steel column (with varying levels ISO rating) exposed parametric natural fires considered. The derived exposure scenarios, considering different load densities opening factor, relating building occupancies. This thus investigates important issue adopting that cost-optimized from quantitative analyses exposures, which significant implications rational resources construction industry.
